Q: “What is this CrossFit program about?"

A: CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program.  We incorporate weightlifting, gymnastics, and various metabolic conditioning elements (like running, jumping, rowing) to produce an intense, and highly effective, means of attaining fitness.  Our brand of fitness involves a well-rounded approach to fitness; we train individuals to perform well at any number of tasks.  We train you to not only lift heavy loads, but to be efficient at moving your own bodyweight as well.

 

Q: “What do I need to do to start?  How much?”

A: For athlete assessment purposes and in efforts to get you caught up with all of our current athletes, we start you with a 2 hour personal training session we call “Elements.”  During Elements we will introduce you to barbell and gymnastics techniques we use during our workouts.  We will train you on nine basic movement progressions for effective and safe barbell training.  After Elements follow-up classes, referred to as "On-Ramp classes" are required prior to purchase of membership. A beginner is required to complete 9 out of the 12 On-Ramp classes within a one-month period. The cost for the On-Ramp Package is $150 which includes the 2-hour personal training session (Elements).  Elements Only without the On-Ramp Package is $50 and is recommended for anyone planning to CrossFit outside of a licensed CrossFit facility.

 

Q: “Why are your prices so much higher than other gym memberships?”

A: CrossFit Amarillo is not your typical commercial gym; you cannot compare or think about us in the same fashion as the “globo-gyms.”  CrossFit Amarillo is the only licensed CrossFit facility in Amarillo.  We are confident that our personal training and nutritional guidance is far superior to others.  We program your workout everyday and we see you through the workout everyday until completion.  Typical gym trainers charge anywhere from $25 to $100 PER HOUR for personal training; PLUS you have to pay a monthly membership on top of that hourly rate.  At CrossFit Amarillo you are provided TOP NOTCH personal training everyday at a fraction of the cost.

 

Q:  “I’m nervous; I don’t know if this is for me.  Can anyone CrossFit or do you need to be in shape already?”

A: CrossFit is for EVERYONE.  Anyone can CrossFit, it just takes a dedicated personality to show up for the workouts.  If you show up, our trainers will take care of the rest.  We train ALL skill levels.  We scale down the workouts to fit your level and ability, but we don’t change programs.  CrossFit is FITNESS FOR LIFE regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability.

 

Q: "'What is a 'WOD'?"

A:  “WOD” is an acronym for “Workout of the Day.”  CrossFit WODs are generally timed events.  By running a clock, we keep a measure of intensity that is unique to CrossFit.

 

Q: "What can I expect at a CrossFit gym?  What are the classes like?"

A:  CFAMA is not your typical gym in the sense that you will be hard pressed to find a machine.  Our equipment includes Barbells, medicine balls, plyometric boxes, tires, climbing ropes, pull-up bars, gymnastic rings, jump ropes, and sledgehammers.  A typical class will start with approx. 15min of warm-up, then straight into the “WOD” (lasting anywhere from 10-35min), followed by a suggested cool-down (dynamic stretch or some sort dynamic movement exercise).  You will have at least one set of eyes on you at all times to ensure safety under load and proper movement during exercise.
